| subject: | IBM Germanium(sp) CPU |
EV>Some of you may already heard about this but I thought I post my EV>comments about what I recently read about IBM making a faster CPU using EV>Germanium (sp?) instead of Silicone for the chip. EV>It suprised me because I remember from the old days that Germanium EV>Transistors were slow compared to Silicone Transistors. EV>The CPUs highest speeds were made when the CPU was supercooled, but EV>there was still a speed advantage of the Germanium (sp?) CPU over the EV>currently fast Silicone CPUs at room temperature. Super cooling has set several records not only in CPU speeds but also Electrical Motor Horsepower in a small size. But I am with you and woudl like to see a real comparision between Germanium and Silicon Super Cooled to the Same Temperature. --- þ SLMR 2.1a þ This note from El Cajon California USA* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
