Hello all,
I tried to post this once before, but for some reason it didn't make the list
Anyway, I have a EQ head that I bought on e-bay years ago, and had no idea
who made it. Well, while searching the web looking for refractor designs,
I found on two different web pages which listed their mount as a Edmunds
EQ, both as far as I can tell from the pictures are similar to mine. I'm
trying to find some specifications on the one I have, as it is different
from the others. Mine has the same basic design, with no degree rings and
has a 1in counter weight shaft. Its not a complete unit, as there has been
some modifications. But, comparing mine to those I found on the net, mine
is different in that it has a re-enforcement bracket that is attached just
below the ALT adjustment bolt, and the opposite end is then secured at the
rear end of the ALT head. The bracket is slotted to allow for the various
positioning of head. I inspected this arrangement, and it appears as though
it was manufactured this way and not something added on later. I'm lead to
believe that this feature was intended to support a heavier 'scope. Is
there anyone on the list that is familiar with Edmunds equatorial mounts
and can tell me what the weight allowance is for this head, I would like to
mount a large and rather heavy scope to this if possible. I have another
question in regards to equatorial heads. On the rear end of the ALT head,
what is the device that is attached to the shaft? It looks like a bearing
and an adjustment knob, but I don't know. I noticed this in the pictures
I've seen of the same EQ head. Answering this will help explain the set-up
on the newest Edmunds mount I just received.

Many thanks,
Arthur
