Distorting reality for humorous purposes is a common tactic in songwriting
(among other places).
Gary's concern reminds me that, when our poke-fun-at-L5ers filksong
"Home on Lagrange" was published in a paperback anthology, Jerry
Pournelle felt compelled to write an introduction explaining that the
microwave beams from solar power satellites would *not* cook people,
birds, and animals below them.
The introduction is longer than the song itself.
(Also, for the record, I have no objection to French Vanilla flavoring
in coffee. I just thought the song "Mister Coffee" would be funnier
if the singer said he did.)
The media event of the decade has been *Babylon 5*, / Bill Higgins
which sets an obesity record for word processor products, / Fermilab
being a single story that runs for over 70 hours /
of viewing time. It's been a revolutionary experience, / Internet:
and I'm sure by the time the imitators are done / higgins@fnal.fnal.gov
we are all going to be very, very sorry. /
