GRAPE seems to work just fine.  It seems to use Hooke's law properly.  It
was my brain that was working improperly...and perhaps with some help of
vague or incomplete guidance on truss stiffness from the Kreige/Berry book.

I think I understand now, and now my brain is working as well as GRAPE.
