O.K. guys I respect all of you input on how far someone can go with
3/4" plate glass when making
a mirror. It seems that if you try a 16" diameter mirror this thin you
are doing a "hat trick". I understand
that support is all important, and that the demon astig.. is always
looming.. I haven't heard from Mel, the master of thin mirrors? Is it even
possible to make a mirror this size with a diameter of only 3/4"???
Richard says , yes only if you slump the blank in a kiln. I have
another question , once you slump
the curve, how do you support the bottom of the mirror when grinding since
it will be concave??
If I go through all this process why can't I just pitch block two 3/4"
blanks together and work on this
combo until figured and then separate and support?? Just a thought...
You see I really want a 16" mirror and I may be pushing
the envelope with what I have so
any input is apreciated and taken as well. Thank you all for your input and
advice....
Oh , I do have some x-tra 3/4" plate glass...
Thanks again
