I located a 1948 Ford truck I made an offer to buy, but the owner decided not
to sell. Then, I found a 1956 Chevy I liked, but again the owner turned me
down. Still looking for the right deal I guess. I like the older cars and
trucks, but I have my own ideas as to what they are worth. So far my ideas
nd
those who own them differ too widely. For now, my current project is a 1978
Subaru I rescued, and a 1985 Thunderbird. I still want a truck to drive, to
work with, and to haul rocks, lumber, landscape timbers, mulch, and the
occasional piece of furniture. It won't be a show truck, but it will be one I
can take pride in, and can maintain and restore to an acceptable level.
Someone might come along and make me an offer of a trade. Other vehicles I am
storing until I get the time to work on them are:
1967 Chevy window van. 6 cyl, needs windshield and seats.
1985 Plymouth mini van. 2.6L, needs timing chain and tensioners.
1985 Dodge Caravan, 2.2L, needs valve job and clutch.
1984 Ford E150 van, 302, needs head gasket and transmission.
1988 Nissan Sentra, quit, needs electronics or ignition.
1984 Nissan Maxima, running, daily driver, has 221,000 miles,
needs valve job, brake cables, and cassette fixed.
It seems all I do lately is work. For the last 8 days, I have logged 96
ours.
Before that, I worked 9 weeks with only 4 nights spent at home. I week in
est
Virginia, two weeks in Texas, one night at home. Then one week in North Carol
ina, 1 week in West Virginia, 1 week in Virginia, and two nights at home.
hen
1 week in North Carolina, 1 night home, and two weeks in Pennsylvania.
It leaves little time for the cars, new or old. I changed the oil and fixed a
few things on the Thunderbird yesterday. Today, I have to install a window
regulator and electric motor in the drivers door, install DOS on a PS/2 for a
friend, and then have another service call which involves Windows 95 doing
random lockups. While recycling my oil, I picked up a fuel injection repair
kit for the Thunderbird and the Haynes manual for it. Reading thru it, it
oes
not look too hard to dissassemble and clean. I hope by doing that, it cures a
hesitation problem it has.
I was also hoping the Haynes would show the meaning for the SERVICE light
which keeps coming on/off at random. I also found out the digital dash
luster
is illuminated by two halogen bulbs. Fords wants $14.90 each for them,
Autozone tried to sell me standard 194 bulbs, but I finally found them at
Advance for $5.99 each. Sure pays to shop around, huh?
My ideal truck would be full sized to haul bigger loads, yet with a 6
ylinder
engine for better economy. One of my nephews has a 1982 Ford with the 300 cid
motor and 4 speed transmission. It has no air, but is otherwise solid. I
ould
like to offer him either the Thunderbird or one of the mini vans as a trade
for his truck. With him having a three month old baby, he might go for the
ar
so his wife and child would be a little more comfortable.
Anyways, thanks for the reply. Still watching for a pickup which strikes my
fancy and which fits my wallet.
