     Well today I cut into the mystery glass I bought 3 weeks ago.  I
procured a glass table top of 3/4"
plate glass that measured 30"x69". The wieght of this piece was
at least 180lbs. I  checked this glass
for stress before buying, and was sure that there was no stress with
polirized lenses on the rotation
situation. But there is always that spook in the glass, and the spook of
cutting the glass.
      Well I donned my space suit (a disposable paper painters overalls),
which my family found quite
amusing, and put on my respirator with protective eye wear. This was also
very amusing to my son
who took a photo in the front yard of my house. Anyway it took time to get
down to cutting glass.
      I used a simple circular saw with a diamond masonary blade. I rigged a
oxigen hose to my garden
hose and wired the hose so that it would spray a steady stream of water at
all times during ther cutting process. The hose was aimed directly at the
blade and the cutting contact with the glass. Lots of water, and double
insulated tools. Maybe it was over kill but I also used a fan aimed at the
cut area to blow
away from the cut area from me. All of this process was done outside next
to my house in an area that
is wooded and no other people live,(nice absorbant soil).
        Being the spaceman I started cutting and I timed how long it took to
cut 30" through 3/4" glass with
a skill saw equiped with a diamond masonary blade (4")..... 9 minutes...
  You can't push this time at all or you will burn the blade, or crack the
glass.
                    To all the nay sayers that told me to watch out , and
that my glass was tempered, and that stress was lurking....   I cut over 20
feet of plate glass,(nice soft plate
glass), today and when I stacked
the pieces all together it was greener than my grass..  in the summer time
that is.  My grass is kinda brown
now, even though I live in Florida.
                      I still have to do cut offs and rounding, but the
mystery of hardness is over and I will don my space suit and respirator and
complete my task, and will look ten times better than Richard S.......
(have you seen that picture of him with the respirator??)  woah....
