Frankly, they don't need it. What they SHOULD do is ONE thing. The rejected
alignment had one problem -- Arizona went to the AL West and they didn't want
to go to the AL. They could fix that alignment with one change -- keep
Arizona in the NL West and move Houston to the AL West. It keeps both leagues
pretty much intact (KC moves over from the AL) and puts two rivalries into
motion - Texas vs Houston and Arizona vs Colorado.

It wouldn't make any sense to go to only two divisions per conference (BTW,
Cleveland's been gone for a while). I prefer keeping the separate identities
for MLB and the NFL. The reason why it works with the NBA is because the
NBA's alignment has been 30 years in birth and its been basically one league.
The NFL may be the NFL, however, it's members still identify themselves as
either AFL or NFL.
