The interaction of light and matter, a subject of deep interest to those
who make and use optics is wonderfully explained in Feynman's book,
"QED, The Strange Theory of Light and Matter."  The book is
apparently still in print, see:

The book is non-mathematical and yet conveys a very deep look into QED.  As
I recall, it touches on photon-photon interactions as well.  You won't be
disappointed.
