Hello Frank,

long-time no see :)

Good idea.

I maintain everything on my own user directory on a
server machine so no matter which client OS use,
everything's in its place. However, I use WSeB to
share that directory ...

Then you'll probably have a problem with the WPS.

I was never in love with the WPS until very recently,
when I've been about to 'leave' the OS2 platform (but
that's another story), so I'm very critical with some
aspects of it.

One of them is, precisely, that the WPS is too
dependent on EAs, which can be easily destroyed by
other software, especially if it has direct access to
the storage media. I've lost WPS access to slightly
'corrupted' FAT drives where all that had happened was
loss of EAs. So IMNSHO you're calling for trouble if
you need to access a network resource from the WPS and
you manage it trough something (the NAS system) that
doesn't know about EAs.

Way to go.

EAs issues (and thus WPS issues as I said above) I'd
expect, not PEER ones. As someone else said, it's
pretty solid.

Only as long as NetDrive transparently manages the WPS
need for EAs AND the (likely) NAS lack of support for
them.

This I don't know. WSeB sharings work flawlessly for
me :)

However, from time to time I need to use other systems
that might destroy EA data (on removable media), and I
also face some WPS limitations, most notably the
hard-linking between WPS objects and one particular
machine, so I may have another solution.

The above reasons are why I've been developing a
(REXX) tool that will migrate any(*) WPS objects
declared within a given directory (your NAS resource
for example) to plain text files within the same
directory (relative paths are used wherever possible
to ensure maximum roam-ability :P ) and back. So the
idea is
1) Use the directory under the WPS.
2) 'Freeze' the WPS info about that filesystem in
plain text files within it, and unmount it.
3) Fiddle around with the directory.
4) Mount that again under ANY OS2 system, 'defreeze'
the WPS objects and voilá, a portable, mostly
self-contained, WPS-ready environment you have.

(*) Currently I only manage shadows 'cos that's all I
care about for now - but that could be easily extended
I guess, and manage real EAs, like .ICON stuff and
all.

Feel free to explore the idea yourself OR contact me
to have a look at my (currently disappointing I'm
afraid) tool.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Alfredo.
