SATA, or PATA?

Rule out a couple of things by downloading and burning from
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ . Run memtest86+ for several passes to rule
out memory problems. Run the Seagate HD diagnostic software to rule out
defects within the HDs. You are running a perfectly matched pair of memory
sticks, right?

There should be some means in the BIOS to underclock 20%-33% to see if the
problem goes away. My PCChips mobo's northbridge fan got noisy early in its
life. You might check to see if yours is working at all.

Your onboard video chip shares memory from regular RAM instead of having its
own dedicated RAM. You might see if reducing the amount allocated to video in
the BIOS changes anything.

Power supply testers have gotten really cheap. You can get one with a digital
readout for under $20. Maybe your power supply is marginal. Those that come
with cases are often cheap junk little better than nothing, and dangerous to
your CPU's and motherboard's health.

Any time you find a new motherboard necessary for use with an Intel CPU,
stick to a board using an Intel chipset. In my experience, VIA is a bad
enough performer with AMD, worse with Intel.
