| subject: | [OS2HW] laptop audio |
Interested in using an old pentium laptop for dedicated audio player. It
is a no name Taiwan brand with an ESS1788 audio chip, Warp 3
installed. Played a couple mp3 files and sound was disappointing. Where
is the weak link in this system?
1. ess1788 chip is cheap junk?
2. laptop does not put out sufficent audio power?
3. Warp 3 sound system is worse than later versions? (Only used Warp 4 for
audio playing)
4. Original driver is poor quality? (Switching desktop system from Via
driver to Uniaud made noticeable improvement)
5. Pcmcia audio card should be added? (Does such work with OS/2?)
As I can re-install whatever needs to be improved, is it worth it on such
machine? Do laptops in general have lower quality audio?
Would another brand improve sound? Anything from a pentium 1 onward with a
good sound chip would do. Screen size, other features
unimporant.
Prefer not to try to improve a compter that will never play decent. Your thoughts!
