If they're on Windows, and your PC's are networked, chances are you can
print through a network share to whatever you wind up with.

It changes from being a hunt for drivers that are current to checking
out which printer language the printer supports and using a similar
driver to render the page before it's passed along.

I've been printing to a Minolta 11x17" PageWorks 20 monochrome laser
using the OS/2 driver for an HP LaserJet 4V in this manner for the last
10 years. For my basic printing needs under OS/2 (the faxes I receive
for my business), this is all I need. The printer probably will render
the pages 11x17", as the 4V also does, but I've never tried it.

As far as your $200 target goes, Samsung makes one called the
CLP-300/XAA which is slightly over that mark. Drivers listed for:

SuSE Linux 8.2, Red Hat Linux 9, Red Hat Linux 8.0, Microsoft Windows
Server 2003, Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, Apple MacOS X 10.3,
Mandrake Linux 9.2, Red Hat Fedora Core 1, Mandrake Linux 10.1
Discovery, Apple MacOS X 10.4, SuSE Linux 9.2, Red Hat Fedora Core 3

but here's the catch:

Emulation : SPL-C (SAMSUNG Printer Language Colour)

**

 From the Samsung website:

Other example:

This printer is PCL5e compatible.

Please add a new printer to the list.
HP LaserJet II or III can be added to print with this printer.

As a general rule all models ending with 50 offer DOS and PCL support.

   PCL compatible:

ML-1250, 1450, 1650, 1750, 2150, 2250, 2550

All other models do not understand or cannot use the PCL language
invented by HP.

So, you check out the CLP-350, and its price tag climbs to about $325 or
so. (Canadian and US dollars are very similar now).

Please be aware I've NOT tried this printer or its driver with OS/2 or
eComStation - I'm only pointing out what's available based upon your
price point target, and potential pitfalls of going that way.

I had a look at the drivers available - none list having "open source"
drivers that might get somewhere with a programmer's help.

HP colour lasers that support PCL are more expensive, but you can find
models like their CB373A#ABA - Colour LaserJet 1600 - for under $200.
Windows-only drivers, though! "Print languages, standard - Host-based". :(

Their PCL-equipped models are considerably more than your $200 price point.

Hope this helps!
