Hi Vince,
Thanks for the response. The motherboard is capable of 133/100/66 mhz. I
assume then that it will handle a drive of any one of those speeds without
a problem.
The Bios shows the UltraDMA mode for those 100 mhz drives se at UDMA5,
which I'm pretty sure is correct.
I emphasize that reading is not a problem, only writing, and in fact short
bursts of data is not a problem.
The drives have all been tesed thoroughly, and result as flawless. I must
assume then that it is something in the BIOS that's the problem.
The Seagate drives have 8 meg cache.
What else should I look at?
Thanks
KevinJ.

The Bus speed is not the speed of communications for the IDE interface. Check
the specifications for the IDE controller and see what speed it will go to. If
the m/b is less than a year old it should go to 133 but older boards can be as
low as 33 or 66. If it is the later you can download a utility from the
seagate web site that will reduce the speed of the drives.

Leave all this set to the default for the moment, get the IDE and drives
sorted first.
