subject: Re: [OS2HW] Help Please...Install Problems

Thanks Ed, Bob, Steve, and Franklin

Here I'm trying to thank everyone who has offered ideas since all have
been, in varying degrees, helpful. I find I've forgotten some of the old
barriers/problems such as the 4.3G barrier which was replaced by the 8.4G
and later the 32G barriers. I'd hoped that if I created a partition that
FDISK would accept on the smallest decent old hdd I had, it would nullify
my forgetfulness of each individual barrier and simply work with that
particular disk an bios combination. However, I further forgot that the
ability to read and write at the level at which FDISK operates is within a
considerably richer environment than that at initial bootup. The main
reason I'd gone ahead with what may seem little preparation I should
mention that I have long been an ardent fan of Dani (and had declared so
formally, thanking her here in this forum some time ago) and as a matter of
course replaced

IBMS506 w/ DaniS506.ADD ( I don't rename Dani's to original as there are
benefits possible, not available when renamed according to docs)

OS2DASD w/ DaniDASD.DMD

IBMIDECD w/ DaniATAP.FLT

Although I had also forgotten what a PITA it can be to "drill
down" in that HUGE IBM land, I was glad for Franklin's suggestion and
did find "Warp4IU1.exe" and "Warp4IU2.exe" on
TheOS2Site and hope that is at least close since the only updates it
mentions are those to IBM1S506 and DOSCALL1. So the only effective update
is to doscall since I replace w/ Dani's all the above mentioned hdd
drivers.

It still doesn't work, failing in exactly the same manner. Now I wonder if
OS2LDR is the problem (and possibly OS2KRNL) but I can't see how to improve
those without first having a bootable system. The kernels I see require at
least FP15 and while I've tried "PATCHLDR" from floppy directing
it at the 1st boot hdd files thusly (after doing attrib -r -s -h c:\os2ldr)

A:\# LDRINST.EXE C:

and it refuses to complete due to being "unable to verify version 4"

In conclusion I am not positive my only problem is OS/2's understanding the
10G drive but I hope to narrow down and verify that later today.
