I got the problems you are describing so every now and then too. Got
away with it, as I described earlier, by detaching all other drives and
then performing a chkdsk from the right bootable eCS install CD.

So you better face the facts: your disk is all right and in excellent
state. The problem you have is imho solely due to the aic29160.add not
coping anymore with today's hardware. Keep in mind, this is a year 2000
thus 8 years old driver, from the era a 36 Giga scsi disk was the
ultimate max. And as a matter of fact imcompatible with acpi.

No, you should detach all drives and perform as decribed above.

You do realize these cards don't have a slot for your 50 pins devices,
don't you? Meaning you would be forced to look for adapters 50-->68,
and having your LVD disks and CD drive on the very same chain. A little
recepee for disastre. I had done so in the past, and it turned out to be
unworkable (from eCS pont of view of course).

To be absolutely sure, you should perform the same as above for each
disks, in order to be absolutely sure the MBR will be cleaned. Yes, I
ran DSsee in the past in the same matter as you did, and it could not do
the job, in the same matter as at your system. IMHO Jan doesn't have
scsi stuff at his disposal, so he can't tell much about scsi anyway, can he?
