I'd check the Asus manual carefully.  Some MB's will not boot from
the other pair of sockets so you need to check your manual.  You
should go to the ASUS support site and see if there are any
addendums or updates to your manual.  

My tyan requires that registered memory be in some of the sockets
and non-registered memory *may* be used in the others.  Also, has
issued several addendums to correct errors & omissions and explain
the memory usage.

I have ecc off because I found that when it is on then the snap
hangs on boot.  I haven't checked this since changing various
components of my system because it is working fine w/ ecc off. 
Probably something I should check out one of these days.

You should also check your manually carefully regarding Felix's
suggestion on ram voltage.  AFAIK my Tyan can only change the FSB
speed but not the voltage.
