I don't know why but I am compelled to tell my thoughts at this time. I
was looking at the night sky
tonight and thinking of the tragic accident on Saturday morning. I am as
all of the world, well most,
grieved by the loss of seven space travelers.. These men and women were
scientists , engineers,
and pilots. These souls braved the new frontier of space to experiment and
test (like most of us on this
list) old and new scientific theories, (just we do it here in the comfort
of our homes or workshops).
These astronauts all knew of the risks of space flight, as all that
have gone before them. This
business is not a walk in the park. It takes many well informed and trained
people to put this amazing
bird into the orbit of our little pebble in space.
The USA has been blessed with success of not really knowing what a
small failure can cause. The
normal guy on the street looks at this as commonplace crap that is no more
dangerous than catching
a bus. Guess what,... Its serious.. everything from breathing to wondering
if a micro-meteor will cut
the hull in half, but most of you on this list know this, the majority of
people don't have a clue...
These spacecrafts are manmade (naturally), we are not perfect, but
that is what we strive for. We
have come a long way in our little adventure into our "space" and
have been very successful , by the
grace of God (or whoever you believe watches over us), and sometimes there
are failures. Some of
these failures are unavoidable, and we hope they come during dry runs, but
until you get to the darkness
of space the real test comes. I am sorry if I am rambling on but the world
of technology will learn from this
tragedy and fix problems that will be found after they have sifted though
data, actual pieces, and
further investigation. Remember our space program on earth is only 42 years
old since Alan Shepard
flew his "Garbage can" into sub-space on a Redstone rocket for
about 15 minutes. We have come a long
way but space is not user friendly and the forces of gravity and
atmosphere combined with speeds we
can't imagine can sometimes be fatal...
Rest in peace oh men of the stars...
