Thanks for the response. The crash is only occurring during writes, and
that's of what I believe is streaming data, for example recording a TV
program. But it also occurs using google earth.

Most normal data record/writes are okay.

The drives in the bios show as UltraDMA5.

Drives have had read/write/scans performes by Dfsee, without a problem.

Software updates often produce a crash.

The drives are relatively new.

Hi Kevin,

You're confusing Bus-speed (memory/CPU related) with mamimum (burst) HDD 
transfer speed! ;-)
A 10Ghz system can still read off an (old - IDE/SCSI) HDD with even 
200KB/sec transfer rate - it would just read and write a disk that old 
very *slowly* - but if disk and FS on it were undamaged - it would still 
read it correctly!
