Hi Kevin,
You're confusing Bus-speed (memory/CPU related) with mamimum (burst) HDD
transfer speed! ;-)
A 10Ghz system can still read off an (old - IDE/SCSI) HDD with even
200KB/sec transfer rate - it would just read and write a disk that old
very *slowly* - but if disk and FS on it were undamaged - it would still
read it correctly!
