Robert,
If you boil the pitch and stand over it while you do so, you soon won't care.
OK, seriously. As I learned from Gerry Logan, thin and shallow. This
means a lot of work caring for the lap, so I cheat a bit.
Also, with regards to other posts in this thread, when polishing out, I
don't make any special effort channeling. The facits aren't square, they
aren't uniform, they look like crude. I do try not to put a channel
through the center of the lap
