I've used talc as a filler in pitch laps.  Some pros use it like that, and
I'd say there's no hazard of scratching, at least with laboratory talc.
Used in the grit might soften the grinding action.  Whether it would allow
the grains of abrasive to perform the same action, I don't know.  Could it
cause bunching of grains?

Try it.
