>Good news for Canadians and Americans: I recently discovered that the valved
caps from liquid detergent bottles can be screwed onto plastic 16-ounce
coke bottles. This makes a great contamination-resistant container for
abrasive
slurry used during fine grinding. The top is easily sealed by pressing it
down.

Since Vincente Fox, the president of Mexico, is a former executive of the
Coca-Cola company, he must be aware of this and he must be conspiring
against telescope making in Mexico!

soften and dissolve polycarbonate soda bottles. This might enable us to make
many kinds of small plastic parts while recycling evil plastic. A similar
solvent for plastic grocery bags could also be useful. Melting with heat
does
not seem to work well. What to try? Turpentine? MEK? Acetone? Various
Alchohols? It should be something available by the gallon at Home Depot.
No benzine, please.

But Richard, benzine is the only solvent, other than a common
form of alcohol, I that know how to make. Dwight
