I could not see what happened on my system when I tried Wave. So if there
were any errors.. perhaps you can make Wave write them in a logfile. Even
when the wave.ini can not be found, use a logfile WAVERR.LOG or whatever.

Why?
It is just a kind of file-handle of an already open file (device), so use it.
I have tried to make a chtat program and I found some code for the seriel
port, but it was from a PM program and I don't know how to program for PM.
So I got no output at my screen :-(, but the program works fine (the other
end can see things happen :-) ). It uses the com-handle that Maximus gives
to the program, just like above: the handle is  (in this case).
I can't tell you more about it because here ends my knowledge..
