Jerry, Hogging out a 16" blank with a steel disc is all very well,
but it will take alot of grinding to get to f-4. Possibly 60 grit and at
least 80 grit. I saw last week you were asking about generating a
curve. I guess after looking at the websites advised you have decided
aginst going this way..??
      I generated a f-5 curve in a 5/8" x 10" plate glass blank using the
actual roc measure on a pivot
beam with a diamond wheel grinder at the radius point. The beam was an
aluminum square tube
mounted on a fixed pole , or wall, with the grinder mounted to the end
where the radius moves.
The fixed end had a pivot that would go from left to right, and the beam
had to stay level to the mount
where the glass was. It is hard to tell you in words how I did this
process but If you would like I
can send you some drawings and explanations. I know it seems like a long
way to go and for the
time and set up your disc brake drum just might take less time. But.. Once
you have grooved out glass
this way the old corn milling process seems like too much work.
                                                       RUSS JOCOY... may all
your spheres come true
