PC> Well Ontario has finished voting... PC> This year I voted, and I found I was in the minority as only 47% >of eligble voters bothered to go to advanced polls and vote for >their local candidate as well the Referundum on MMP. PC> Now for stats .... Record people not voting was 53 % and there >was reports of poll problems, and many must have walked out, as well >polling stations over yonder well out of the way...etc. They say >the record is 55% set in 1925. The numbers being thrown around vary a bit but they all agree with what you basically said. What CTV National News said was that for the last provincial election the voter turnout was 56.4% and was the lowest in history until then. This election the turnout was 52.4%. Given the huge Liberal majority it sounds like the Conservatives are staying home. A two term majority Liberal gov't also hasn't happened in 70 years. It appears the Conservatives did a good job of messing things up when they were last in power.. They also said that it's not so much the Liberals gaining ground as it was the Conservatives Losing gtound, but the lost Conservative seats didn't go to the Liberals, they went to the other smaller parties like the NDP and Green party. The Mixed Member Parliament number you mentioned was that 63% voted against (37% for) changing the voting system. I believe they needed a minimum of 75% to vote FOR the change before it would be adopted. In any case that's just numbers. The end result, if a little more dramatic than anticipated, was pretty much what I expected going in. --- * SLMR Rob * Democracy: Voting for the person you don't want the least * PDQWK 2.52 #17 --- GTMail 1.26* Origin: Kentucky's Capitol City Online * 502/875-8938 (1:2320/105.0) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 400 34/999 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 229/4000 236/150 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 SEEN-BY: 261/1410 1418 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 633/260 262 267 285 712/848 SEEN-BY: 800/432 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/105 200 2800/18 2905/0 3005/4 @PATH: 2320/105 261/38 633/260 267 |
