SR> The 288 replaces the M34F and the 288D is the same but

SR> includes DSVD (and $100 more on the price tag).

PC> So the 288 is the same price as the M34F was, that's not to

 PC> bad then.

CW> :( So far I'm -not- impressed with the new 288 model. It has a clunky

CW> hook relay (the M34F's are silent), and it makes speaker connection

CW> noise even with M0 set. Argh!

Hmmm, I have a Smartmodem 288D and have not had problems like this. You

may want to send a message to support{at}netcomm.com.au and mention this

as it could be your modem.

CW> Also, does anyone have any technical info on the VoiceMaster 288's

CW> voice command usage? The model includes -no- technical info on the

CW> subject, and voice control is an emerging standard (i.e. not yet a

CW> standard), so that most software appears to not work with the

CW> VoiceMaster 288. Cooee is NO option of course, I can't afford to

CW> dedicate a whole machine to running Win3.xx just as an answering

CW> machine.. and Win3.XX cannot run stand alone for more than 3 days in

 CW> any case (by design).

The Voice Master 288 and the Auto/Smartmodem V8/6 modems use the

Rockwell AT#V command set. There is an ITU standard but I cannot

remember it off the top of my head. You can get lots of good

input at their Internet site (www.rockwell.com).

I was talking to a guy in Germany about a simple command line utility

that could possibly be used from a mailer to hot swap out to save

voice files. Kinda like BGFax or other fax utilities.

Give us an email if you want more info, we may be getting out of the

 area's accepted discussion area.

Cooee works very well at saving and answering voice files. Just ashame

that the rest of it isn't quite up to scratch yet.
