   Glenn,  It sounds like this tool is giving you fits... I have been
grinding two 5/8" mirrors, one 10" and one 9" Since these
mirrors are so thin I have not put the glass on top. I have used TOT from
the beginning.
  As long as you keep things rotated and do the barrel dance, and have
support for your glass I don't
see problems. I am now on 12mic and both mirrors have nice spheres going.
Polishing will tell.
I have done the sharpie tests all along and it takes two or three
"W" runs and the marks disappear.
