Fairfax County Public Safety Communications Center is looking for applicants
interested in a rewarding career as a 9-1-1 call taker and fire and police
dispatcher.  Interested candidates should be decisive, patient, flexible,
adaptable to change, and customer service oriented.  Formal training both
classroom and on-the-job is provided to candidates who successfully pass the
written entrance exam, polygraph, and background investigation.
The Fairfax County Public Safety Communications Center is the largest public
safety center (140 employees) in the state and among the largest combined
(police, fire, and rescue) public safety communications centers in the 
ation.
Fairfax County is a large (900,000) suburban community in the Washington D.C.
metropolitan area.  The Center is ergonomically designed,  E-9-1-1 equipped,
and uses advanced radio and CAD technology with mobile data terminals in all
response vehicles. 
Entry level communicator positions start at approximately $28,000 when roll
call and 12 hour shift schedule adjustments are included.  There is also

opportunity to earn overtime pay once training is completed.  Applicants with
prior public safety communications experience may be eligible for higher 
alar
