There are a lot of factors involved..  Unless the gov't steps in
and greatly reduces what doctors get paid, which would greatly
reduce the number of people going into medicine for the big bucks,
it is just too expensive. It's very easy to bankrupt a country
with healthcare costs. You also hear horror stories about terrible
care in one place and stories of super care in another all in the
same country or province/state. A lot of it is luck of the draw,
when you land at the hospital or exactly where you live and how
crowded or well serviced and supplied your local area is..

Better healthcare would be great but if it's going to start
costing $10,000 per person per year instead of $5000, that
extra money ($165 BILLION) has to come from somewhere. (Taxes)

Even without universal healthcare the U.S. gov't actually spends
more per person on really poor (if you don't have insurance)
healthcare than we do simply because their doctors and hospitals
often charge 3 and 4 times as much for the same procedure that
we do in Canada... The idea of universal healthcare there is a
fantasy because they would have to change the entire system over
to non-profit hospitals and reduce top doctor's wages by about
75% to do the same 'lousy' job we do here..
