I don't know how many of you might have enjoyed Roller Derby, but one of
it's star skaters has reportedly passed away.
 
Joan Weston, know as the Blonde Amazon; Blonde Bomber; and Queen of the
Roller Derby, who wore jersey number 38 on the girls squad of the San
Francisco Bay Bombers, reportedly died of Creutzfldt-Jakob Disease (a
rare brain virus) on 10 May 1997.
 
Weston started skating in Roller Derby in 1955 with the Brooklyn Red
Devils and retired in the mid 1970s. She was one of the most talented and
well known of all the skaters in Roller Derby.
